1. Introduction
Overview
Promotions are one of the most powerful levers in e-commerce — but most retailers are trapped by rigid tools that force every campaign into a handful of templates, require engineering support to launch, and have no coherent story for how online and offline offers interact. Category managers end up raising tickets for every new offer type. Launches that should take hours take days. And when a competitor drops a price on a Friday afternoon, the window to respond has already closed.
FCC Promotions is built on the same engine that powers promotions at Flipkart scale — one of the highest-volume commerce platforms in the world. It gives publishers a comprehensive, self-serve promotions platform covering the full spectrum of offer types: from straightforward flat discounts to complex multi-buy basket offers, payment-linked deals, freebies, early-access campaigns, and targeted loyalty promotions. Offers can be created, approved, and published entirely through the self-serve console — no engineering tickets required.
Critically, FCC Promotions handles both online and offline (store/POS) promotions within a single unified engine, ensuring price and offer consistency across every channel a customer touches.
Expected Business Impact
| Outcome | Expected Lift |
|---|---|
| Conversion rate uplift from targeted and basket promotions | +8–15% |
| Average Order Value improvement from multi-buy and bundle offers | +10–20% |
| Promotion setup time reduction via self-serve console | Up to 60–70% |
| Repeat purchase rate from loyalty and payment-linked offers | +5–10% |
Who This Platform Is For
| Persona | Description |
|---|---|
| Network Publishers | Retailers and marketplaces wanting a comprehensive, scalable promotions engine that covers the full range of offer types across online and offline channels |
| Category and Merchandising Managers | Business teams who need to create, configure, and launch offers without raising engineering tickets — with full visibility into offer status and performance |
| Marketing and CRM Teams | Teams running targeted campaigns, loyalty promotions, and payment-linked offers who need precise eligibility control and audience targeting |
| Integration Engineers | Technical teams integrating FCC Promotions APIs into storefronts, cart and checkout systems, and POS infrastructure |
2. How the Platform Works
FCC Promotions is the single engine for all promotional pricing across every channel — online, app, and in-store. It handles the full offer lifecycle from creation through eligibility resolution and serving: offers are configured in the self-serve console, routed through an approval workflow, and then applied in real time at cart and checkout. The same engine serves the website, mobile app, and POS simultaneously, ensuring offer consistency across every channel a customer touches.
The platform integrates with the publisher's pricing system, loyalty programme, inventory, CRM, and store/POS infrastructure through well-defined APIs, and an analytics layer feeds performance signals back to support campaign measurement and ongoing optimisation.
Key functional concepts:
Unconditional vs. Conditional Offers. Unconditional offers apply automatically to all eligible users without any cart threshold. Conditional offers require a precondition — a minimum cart quantity or spend amount — before the discount activates. Conditional offers are evaluated and resolved in real time at cart.
Single Store vs. Platform Offers. Single Store offers apply to a specific store and require no opt-in. Platform Offers are created for multiple stores and require each participating store to opt in through the console before the offer goes live for their SKUs.
Offer Stacking. Multiple offers can be active on the same product simultaneously. The engine resolves the best applicable discount for unconditional offers automatically. For conditional offers, multiple discounts can stack in the cart when each offer's eligibility conditions are independently met.
Primary Business Objective. Every offer is configured with a primary business objective — GMV maximisation, units maximisation, new customer acquisition, stock clearance, working capital maximisation, or units-per-order maximisation. This objective drives reporting and performance attribution for each campaign.
3. Offer Template Library
Status: ✅ Live
Overview
FCC Promotions ships with one of the broadest offer template libraries available in a retail commerce platform — covering the full spectrum of promotion types from simple unit-level price discounts to complex multi-group bundle deals, volume buy mechanics, spend-threshold basket offers, fee waivers, freebies, and promo-code driven coupons. Every template is available through the self-serve console with no engineering support required, and all offers are evaluated and resolved in real time at cart and checkout.

| Listing Price Discount | Flat percentage or fixed amount discount on a product's listing price, conditional or unconditional | Everyday promotions, sale events |
Volume & Multi-buy Offers
| Offer Type | Description | Typical Use Case |
|---|---|---|
| Bulk Buy — Single SKU | Customer purchases a defined quantity of the same product at a fixed total price (e.g., "Buy 10 Mangoes for $10"). Discount applied proportionally per unit; any units beyond a full set charged at standard price. | Volume incentives for a single high-velocity SKU |
| Bulk Buy — Multi SKU / Mix & Match | Customer purchases a minimum combined quantity from a defined set of products, brands, or categories for a fixed total (e.g., "Any 10 fruits for $10"). Global exclusions (Tobacco/Liquor) are excluded from the count. | Volume incentives across a product range |

| Buy M Get N Free | Purchase M units of a qualifying product and receive N units free | Stock rotation, customer acquisition |
| Multi Unit Listing Discount | Discount applied when multiple units of the same product are purchased | FMCG multi-packs, volume buying incentives |

| Multi-tiered Order Value Off | Fixed dollar discounts configured across multiple spend tiers against a single offer (e.g., $150+ → $10 off; $250+ → $20 off; $350+ → $30 off). Customer receives the discount corresponding to the tier their net spend falls into. | Incentivising progressively higher basket values with scaled rewards |

| Promise Offer | A commitment-based offer tied to a future fulfilment or service guarantee | Trust-building campaigns, service-led promotions |
Coupons & Promo Codes
Status: ✅ Live
Coupon offers are promo-code driven promotions where a customer must enter a code at checkout to activate the discount. They are distinct from auto-applied offers and are purpose-built for targeted, measurable distribution campaigns.
| Capability | Description |
|---|---|
| Coupon Offer Types | Supports % off and fixed $ off; all standard offer eligibility criteria (spend threshold, product targeting, user targeting) apply on top of code validation |
| Multiple Codes per Offer | Multiple distinct promo codes (e.g., "SAVE10", "SHOP10") can be linked to the same underlying offer without changing the outcome — enabling channel-specific tracking |
| Bulk Unique Code Generation | Up to 1,000,000 unique, anonymous promo codes can be generated for a single offer. Generated codes are exported via CSV for downstream marketing distribution. |
| Single-use Enforcement | Codes can be configured as single-use per customer or globally limited |
| Redemption Limit Enforcement | Per-user, per-order, and global platform redemption limits apply to coupon offers in the same way as auto-applied offers |
| Error Messaging | Structured error intents returned for expired codes, non-qualifying carts, exhausted limits, and invalid codes — enabling the UI to display contextual customer messaging |
| Checkout Integration | Promo codes can be applied, viewed, and removed during checkout; the applied code and discount value are surfaced separately in the cart payload for display and reconciliation |
4. Promotions Lifecycle and Console
Status: ✅ Live
Overview
Every offer in FCC Promotions follows a defined lifecycle — from initial configuration through approval, publishing, store opt-in, and going live. The entire lifecycle is managed through the Promotions Management Platform (PMP), a self-serve console that allows business users to create, approve, and publish offers without engineering involvement.
Promotions Lifecycle
Every offer moves through the following stages:
- Offer Creation — offer configured in the console (single or multi-store); offer type, products, discount, validity, and objective are set
- Offer Approval — category manager or approver reviews offer details; approved or rejected with reason recorded in the audit log
- Offer Publish — offer creator explicitly publishes the approved offer; offer enters Upcoming / Coming Soon state
- Store Opt-in (Platform Offers only) — each participating store opts in via dashboard to allow their SKUs to carry the offer
- Offer Live — offer activates on the start date and runs until the end date or until manually stopped
Promotions Console — Key Capabilities
| Capability | Description |
|---|---|
| Offer Search | Search offers by Offer ID, Label, Offer Name, or Console ID |
| Status Tabs | All / Live / Draft / Action Required / Not Live — filterable views for offer management at scale |
| Offer Card Actions | View, Edit, Approve/Reject, Publish, Stop Offer, Start Offer — all accessible from the offer card without navigating away |
| Offer Creation Wizard | Step-by-step guided creation: Generic Details → Offer Type → Product Selection → Discount Configuration → Discovery / Communication → Summary → Submit |
| Single vs. Multi-Store Toggle | Configure whether an offer applies to a single store or requires multi-store opt-in at the point of creation |
| Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) | Separate Creator, Approver, and Admin roles with distinct permissions — ensures governance without bottlenecks |
| Audit Log | All changes to offer configuration are tracked with timestamp, user, and before/after diff |
| Approval Workflow | Approvers see a dedicated inbox with offer preview before approving or rejecting |
Offer Status Reference

5. Offer Targeting and Stackability
Status: ✅ Live
Overview
FCC Promotions gives publishers precise, multi-dimensional control over which customers see an offer and under which conditions it applies. Eligibility is evaluated in real time at cart — combining offer pivots (the contextual conditions that gate delivery), user and segment targeting, product and category scoping, and stackability rules — to determine the exact set of discounts applicable to each customer's cart at the moment of checkout.
Offer Pivots — Delivery Context Conditions
Offer pivots restrict offer eligibility based on the customer's shopping context at the time of cart evaluation. Multiple pivots can be combined using AND/OR Boolean logic to create highly specific eligibility conditions.
| Pivot | Description | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Offer applies only on specified channels — App, mSite, or Web | App-exclusive payment offer to drive mobile adoption |
| Day of Week | Offer activates only when the customer's selected delivery slot falls on a specific day of the week | "Free Delivery Wednesdays" |
| Slot Duration | Offer activates based on the length of the selected delivery or pickup window (e.g., 2-hour slots), regardless of time of day | Incentivise customers to select longer, logistics-friendly delivery windows |
| Postcode | Offer restricted to customers with delivery addresses in specific postcodes or postcode ranges. Postcode lists are uploaded and managed in PMP by Admins. | Regional competitor response; local grand-opening incentive |
| Store ID | Offer restricted to customers fulfilling from specific store locations. Store lists are uploaded and managed in PMP by Admins. | Store-level stock clearance; location-specific campaign |
| Service Type | Offer restricted to specific fulfilment modes — Home Delivery, Click & Collect, Smart Locker, Rapid, Partner Delivery, Remote Delivery, and others. Cart re-evaluated instantly if service type changes mid-journey. | Drive adoption of a specific fulfilment channel |
Multi-pivot offers combine any of the above using AND / OR operators:
| Logic | Example |
|---|---|
| AND | App users AND Wednesday delivery slot → fee waiver |
| OR | Postcode 2000 OR loyalty subscriber → $10 off |
| Nested AND/OR | (App + Wednesday slot) OR (Postcode 2000) → combined offer |
User & Segment Targeting
Offers can be restricted to specific customer segments, passed as a Segment ID in the cart API context and evaluated in real time. All segment definitions are managed outside FCC (in the publisher's CRM or loyalty system) and uploaded into PMP by Admins for selection during offer creation.
| Targeting Type | How It Works | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Subscription tier | Offer restricted to customers whose cart context includes a segment ID corresponding to a specific subscription plan (e.g., Premium Monthly, Annual, Saver) | Exclusive discount for loyalty programme members |
| Whitelisted user cohort | Offer restricted to a pre-defined list of customer IDs represented as a segment | Win-back campaign for lapsed high-value shoppers |
| B2B vs. B2C | Offer applies only to the specified customer type (Business or Consumer) based on a flag in the cart context | Wholesale-style pricing for registered business accounts |
| First-time buyers | Offer restricted to customers with zero previous orders, represented as a segment | New customer acquisition incentive |
| Order history + service type | Offer restricted to customers with zero prior orders via a specific fulfilment channel (e.g., zero Click & Collect orders) | Drive first-time adoption of a new fulfilment mode |
| State / Territory | Offer restricted to stores located within a specific state or territory | State-wide campaign aligned to local marketing activity |
| Generic segment | Any custom segment defined and managed by the publisher — lifecycle stage, purchase frequency, category affinity, etc. | Targeted lifecycle or CRM-driven promotions |
Offer Stackability Rules
FCC Promotions distinguishes between two classes of offers with different stackability behaviours:
| Offer Class | Source | Stackability Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| Console-Created Offers | Created in the self-serve PMP by publisher operations teams | Fully additive — all console-created offers for which a customer is eligible are applied simultaneously. The customer receives the sum of all applicable discounts. |
| Feed-Ingested Offers | Ingested via a data feed file from the publisher's merchandising or pricing system | Non-additive — if a customer is eligible for multiple feed-ingested offers, only one applies. Priority: (1) the most valuable offer; (2) if equal value, the offer with the lowest qualifying basket threshold. |
Console-created and feed-ingested offers can coexist and stack with each other in the same cart. The stackability restriction applies only within the feed-ingested offer class.
Trolley threshold evaluation: For any offer with a minimum spend condition, the qualifying spend is calculated after all product-level SKU discounts and global exclusions have been applied — never on the gross cart total.
Global & Campaign-Level Exclusions
Global Exclusions are a centrally managed list of categories (e.g., Tobacco, Liquor) that are permanently excluded from all promotional calculations across every offer, without exception. They are configured at category/vertical level by PMP Admins only.
- Globally excluded items are never discounted, regardless of offer configuration
- Their value is excluded from any spend threshold calculation (e.g., a $30 tobacco item in a $100 cart makes the qualifying spend $70)
- Additions and removals from the Global Exclusion list are logged in the audit trail
Campaign-Level Exclusions allow offer creators to further scope a specific offer's eligibility beyond the global list:
| Mode | Description |
|---|---|
| Blacklist (Exclude these items) | Specific PIDs, Brands, or Categories are excluded from this offer's qualifying spend and discount application |
| Whitelist (Only include these items) | The offer applies only to a defined subset of PIDs, Brands, or Categories |
Both modes can be configured at Product ID, Brand, or Category (Merch Hierarchy) level. Excluded items do not count toward spend/quantity thresholds and do not receive the offer's discount.
Redemption Limits
| Limit Type | Description |
|---|---|
| Per-user limit | Maximum number of times an individual customer (by User ID) can redeem a specific offer across their lifetime. Suppresses the offer for that customer once the limit is reached. |
| Per-order limit | Maximum number of times an offer can be applied within a single cart/transaction |
| Global platform limit | Maximum total redemptions across all customers for a single offer. Once reached, the offer is automatically deactivated. The checkout price lock-in is honoured for customers already mid-checkout when the global limit is hit. |
Checkout Price Lock-In
When a customer qualifies for an offer and initiates checkout, the resolved discounted price is honoured for a configurable lock-in window — even if the offer expires globally, the global redemption limit is reached, or a time-based pivot (e.g., a day-of-week slot) changes during their checkout session. This prevents mid-checkout price changes that damage customer experience.
6. Onboarding Checklist
Overview
The following are some of the high-level milestones of onboarding FCC Promotions:
- Offer scope and platform configuration — agree on the initial offer types for launch, configure RBAC roles (Creator, Approver, Admin), and set up store hierarchy for single-store vs. multi-store offers
- Targeting and governance setup — configure audience segments for offer targeting, define offer stacking rules, global exclusions, and margin floor guardrails
- Technical integration — integrate the FCC Promotions API into cart and checkout, connect Store/POS systems for offline offer parity, and validate end-to-end offer application across all channels
- Team enablement — train category and merchandising teams on the self-serve Promotions Management Platform (PMP) and the approval workflow
- Go live and performance review — launch initial offers, monitor redemption rate, AOV uplift, and margin floor compliance, and establish an ongoing promotions performance review cadence
